This Privacy Policy explains how Darija Translator ("we", "our", or "the extension") collects, uses, and protects your information. By using this extension, you agree to the practices described below.

1. What data we collect

Darija Translator collects different data depending on how you use the extension.

All users (no login required)

When you open the extension for the first time, a random device ID is generated on your device using crypto.randomUUID() and stored locally. This ID is used to create an anonymous record in our database containing only two timestamps: when the extension was first opened, and when it was most recently opened. No email address, name, IP address, browsing history, or translation search terms are ever collected or stored for anonymous users.

If you choose to log in

Logging in is only required if you want to contribute or report translations — it is never required to use the translation feature. When you sign in with Google, we collect:

• Email address and display name — recorded at the moment of sign-in, before any contribution is made, as part of an append-only login log
• Your device's anonymous record is linked to your email going forward, so your contributions can be attributed to your account
• Any translations you contribute — including the English phrase, Darija translation, and a timestamp
• Any translations you report — including the phrase, translation, and a timestamp

Translation lookups are performed entirely locally against a bundled dictionary and do not send any data to any server. No record of what you search for is ever stored.

2. How we use your data

We use the data we collect exclusively for the following purposes:

• To track whether the extension is actively being used, using anonymous device records with no personal information attached
• To attribute crowdsourced translations and reports to the correct contributor
• To maintain the quality and integrity of the translation dataset
• To allow the administrator to review, moderate, and audit contributions and reports

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the extension's translation functionality. Internal usage tracking is limited to anonymous activity timestamps and is accessible only to the extension administrator.

3. How we store your data

Your randomly generated device ID is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API. Anonymous usage timestamps, login records, contributions, and reports are stored securely in Google Firestore. Access to personal data — including login records, reports, and user records — is restricted by Firestore security rules to a single administrator account and is not accessible to any other user of the extension.

4. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties. Your email address is visible only to the extension administrator for moderation purposes and is never displayed publicly.

The only third-party service we use is Google Firebase / Firestore for database storage and authentication, which is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Data retention

Your data is retained for as long as you have an active account or until you request deletion. To request deletion of your data, please contact us at the email below and we will remove your contributions and account information within 30 days.

6. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data at any time
• Withdraw your consent by simply not logging in or uninstalling the extension

7. Children's privacy

Darija Translator is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
